VERSA-LOK segmental retaining walls are made from high-strength concrete units, dry-stacked, interlocked with pins, and set on granular leveling pads. These mortarless walls do not need frost footings. And when stabilized with geogrid soil reinforcement, VERSA-LOK walls can be built 50 feet tall and even higher. From intricate landscaping features to tall, commercial walls, VERSA-LOK delivers your best value in segmental retaining wall solutions.

VERSA-LOK’s unique hole-to-slot pinning system provides your walls with an automatic setback, improving stability and making installation a snap. Durable, solid VERSA-LOK units have no voids to fill and can be modified easily on-site to create a variety of special landscaping features.

VERSA-LOK® Retaining Wall Systems has been creating Solid Solutions™ for architects, engineers, contractors and homeowners since 1987. The company pioneered the solid, pinned segmental retaining wall (SRW) system and holds numerous patents for the top-down, hole-to-slot pinning system. Imitated but never duplicated, VERSA-LOK is well known among landscape architects, specifiers, contractors and homeowners for ease of installation and design flexibility.

The VERSA-LOK Standard wall unit is the original solid, pinned retaining wall system. The full product line today includes systems that cover the range of landscaping applications, from backyard garden walls to large commercial and public sector development projects. Less costly and more attractive than poured-in-place concrete and virtually maintenance-free, VERSA-LOK wall systems deliver endless design options to professionals and do-it-yourselfers alike.

VERSA-LOK solid units have no voids to fill, which simplifies installation and makes on-site modifications easy. The units can be used to create variable-radius curves, multi-angle corners, stairs, columns and freestanding walls. With proper engineering and soil stabilization, VERSA-LOK retaining walls can be built to 40 feet and taller.

Frequently Asked Questions

VERSA-LOK colors vary by region. Please contact us for the colors available.

The weight of the units creates a frictional connection between courses, and VERSA-TUFF non-corrosive pins create a mechanical connection between courses. Two pins are used per unit—inserted through the front holes in the upper course units and down into the rear slots of the lower course units.

No. All VERSA-LOK walls are mortarless! Units are dry stacked and aligned using VERSA-TUFF pins. Mortarless construction allows walls to remain somewhat flexible and accommodate minor earth movement (such as that caused by freeze/thaw cycles) without damage.

No. VERSA-LOK walls are installed on shallow, non-rigid leveling pads consisting of well-compacted gravel, crushed stone or coarse sand — even in northern climates that experience freeze/thaw cycles. The flexible nature of the walls allows them to accommodate minor earth movement without damage.

Yes. Many do-it-yourselfers discover solid, pinned VERSA-LOK systems are actually quite easy to install.

In most situations, VERSA-LOK walls can be built three to four feet tall without engineering or soil reinforcement and can be build to any required height with proper engineering and soil reinforcement. Factors such as wall height and soil loads should be carefully considered before determining how you construct your wall. Consult your local dealer if you have questions.

No. With our solid units, corners, curves and steps can be build using one unit—a major advantage to working with VERSA-LOK systems. Units can be modified easily with a hammer and masonry chisel or a mechanical splitter.

Finish off your wall by placing VERSA-LOK cap units down securely with VERSA-LOK Concrete Adhesive. Front faces of caps may be placed flush, set back or slightly overhanging (recommended) the face of the wall.
